The post Crypto Protocols Must Reaudit Old Smart Contracts, Experts Warn appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.
Blockchain security experts are urging crypto protocols to reaudit their smart contracts as AI tooling is making it easier for hackers to identify vulnerabilities more quickly than ever before. “Our data argues for continuous review rather than a one-time audit,” TRM Labs head of policy Ari Redbord told Cointelegraph, adding that “attack techniques are moving faster than a single audit from launch day can account for.” “An audit built for last year’s attack patterns leaves a protocol exposed to this year’s as bad actors are changing up.” CertiK reported Monday that hackers stole another $1.32 billion in the first half of 2026 and have adopted increasingly sophisticated strategies in response to strengthened security measures across the industry. One of those strategies has been to revisit old codebases, CertiK said, adding that the attacker’s efforts have likely been “aided by

The post SlowMist reports 182 Blockchain Security Issues in H1 2026 appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.
The blockchain industry experienced a surge in security incidents in H1 2026. Most security attacks in the blockchain space have occurred on the Ethereum network. DeFi solutions represented the prime targets of blockchain hackers in H1 2026. Blockchain security firm SlowMist has released its mid-year report for 2026, showing that the ecosystem has entered a new phase. According to the report, AI-driven scams, supply chain attacks, and cross-chain infrastructure exploits expanded the attack surface beyond smart contracts. Meanwhile, global regulation around stablecoins, AML, and VASPs continued to mature. 🚨 SlowMist presents the 2026 Mid-year Blockchain Security & AML Report! 1/ In H1 2026, blockchain security entered a new phase. The post Secret Network Arbitrum Move Driven by AI Security Risks appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.
A privacy-focused blockchain abandoning the network it was built on is not something that happens quietly. Secret Network, which has been running privacy-preserving smart contracts on Cosmos since 2020, is now proposing a full migration to Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum — and the driving force behind the Secret Network Arbitrum move is not just declining liquidity. It is the rising capability of artificial intelligence to crack old, poorly maintained code. Key takeaways Secret Network is proposing to leave Cosmos for Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum, citing AI-assisted exploit risks and ecosystem liquidity decline. A $4.7 million Axelar-Secret IBC bridge exploit in June underscored the vulnerability of aging infrastructure, though the SCRT token itself was not affected. Cosmos ecosystem TVL has dropped 88% since its 2021 peak to roughly $2 billion; Arbitrum leads all layer-2 networks with $17.4 b

The post North Korean hackers stole two-thirds of crypto in 2026: report appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.
Homepage > News > Business > North Korean hackers stole two-thirds of crypto in 2026: report North Korea-linked groups were responsible for around two-thirds of digital asset hacking losses worldwide in the first half of 2026, according to a new report by blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs, which also found that overall losses are down compared to last year. The report, published July 1, revealed that attackers have carried out 207 separate hacks over the last six months, “the highest number TRM has recorded in any six-month period,” said the firm. Despite the increase in incidents, the total losses were actually down compared to the same period last year, from $2.3 billion in the first half of 2025 to $972 million in 2026. Of this latter figure, North Korean state-linked entities accounted for 66.2%, roughly $643 million, with TRM Labs attributing the majority to two major att
