In a federal courtroom in California on Thursday, Elon Musk testified that his own AI startup, xAI, has used OpenAI's models to improve its own. The matter at question is model distillation, a common industry practice by which one larger AI model acts as a "teacher" of sorts to pass on knowledge to a smaller AI model, the "student." AI helps businesses become more efficient. But does it make leaders less connected?

Two of Silicon Valley's best known tech moguls, Elon Musk and Sam Altman, are going to face off each other in court with the trial getting underway with jury selection on Monday.  The lawsuit is brought by Musk, who accuses Altman of fraud and is seeking more than $130 billion in damages, for 'betraying' the AI startup's founding mission of being non-profit. Plus, labelling rules on honey jars are set to toughen from mid-June in France, taking a new EU indication of origin rule into effect.

The development comes amid continued tension over AI between the U.S. and China.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is recommending passkeys as the default authentication method for businesses to offer consumers, citing industry progress that now makes them a more secure and user-friendly alternative to passwords. In a blog post published this week, the agency said passkeys can now be recommended to both the public and businesses as a primary authentication method. “Passkeys should now be consumers’ first choice of login,” the UK cybersecurity authority said in a blog post, adding that passwords are “no longer resilient enough for the contemporary world.” “Passkeys are a newer method for logging into online accounts which do much of the heavy lifting for users, only requiring user approval rather than needing to input a password. This makes passkeys quicker and easier to use and harder for cyber attackers to compromise,” the NCSC added in the blog.
